Runway4Recovery

On Sunday, November 15th, at 11 am Wayside Athletic Club will be holding a special fundraising event for a great cause and one that affects one of our own members.  Robyn Stewart is a three-time cancer survivor and has been a part of the Wayside Athletic Club Community since 2016! Runway honors and supports families affected by breast cancer and dedicate resources to support children who have lost caregivers to the disease. They foster a sense of community within the families, children, and survivors that they work with to inspire joy in the midst of a seemingly hopeless time.

Please consider attending the class on Sunday, November 15 at 11 am.  Pre-registration is required and space is limited. Colleen Keelan will be teaching the event and has graciously donated her own time towards the cause.  Can’t make the class? You can still donate to the great cause if you would like.  Please contact Colleen directly. 100% of funds raised for this event will be donated to Runway For Recovery.

A little bit about our member Robyn Stweart….

My name is Robyn Stewart and I have been part of the Wayside community since 2016. I am a mother, a wife, a daughter, a sister, an aunt, and a three-time cancer survivor.

In 2007, I was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent several lumpectomies and radiation. After treatment, I went back to being a mom, a work-at-home college-finance advisor, and my life went back to normal. Seven years later I was diagnosed again with breast cancer. My 2015-6 treatment included a double mastectomy, attempted reconstruction surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy (hiccups along the way included multiple ER visits, emergency surgery, and extended hospital stays). In 2018 – on Christmas Eve – I was diagnosed with Lymphoma and had to undergo chemotherapy for a second time. Today, I am happy to report that I am doing well.

My family became Wayside members in 2016. I tried a few land classes, but quickly fell in love with the water aerobics classes and have been a fairly regular attendee ever since. I am not a swimmer, but something about moving, running, and jumping in the pool is so energizing for me.

Every year I like to participate in a fundraiser or charity event that raises awareness and funds for cancer. Runway4Recovery (https://runwayforrecovery.org/) is an amazing organization that helps families who have directly been impacted by breast cancer. Their work is near and dear to my heart and I am happy to share that I am one of the 2020 Runway Models.

Thank you!

Robyn Stewart
