Wayside Waves Fall Clinic

Fall Clinic for the Waves Swim Team

September 3, 2024 – October 24, 2023
Non-competitive Team/Skill Building Season

Swimmers must still meet the minimum skill requirements for the team, and therefore any swimmer who has never been a part of a competitive swim team before must have a swim evaluation completed by the Director/Head Coach prior to registration. Please contact
Sue Morse at SusanMorse@waysideathleticclub.com to schedule this evaluation.

WHAT TO EXPECT

During this 8-week, swimmers will work through each of the strokes, starts, finishes, and turns necessary for their age-group races.  This will be slow, methodical, and rewarding work for the swimmers and the coaches.  We will build strength, technique, and skill while growing friendships, team spirit, and the fun of the sport of swimming.

This is an excellent time to try it on the swim team and see if you like it.  The session is short, just 15-16 practices, twice per week. COME ON… Try us out! I guarantee we will like you!

THERE WILL BE NO PRACTICE MAKE-UPS FOR SWIMMERS MISSING DUE TO ILLNESS, FAMILY TRAVEL, OR OTHER PERSONAL REASONS.

OFF DATES

Practices will be canceled on October 13(Sunday) & October 14 (Monday) for the long weekend which starts with Yom Kippur and ends with Indigenous Peoples Day. The Winter Competitive Team is to begin gearing up starting October 27th.

If the Club has to cancel a practice due to thunderstorms, severe weather, or other facility issues, We will make every effort to accommodate the swimmers into one of the existing practices. Failing this, we will give credit to your Wayside Account to use on future programs. No credit card refunds will occur.

SPECIAL FALL CLINIC ONLY – AGE & SKILL REQUIREMENT (ages 11-18)

Ages 11-18: must be able to swim at least 2 lengths of the pool (50 yards) in both the Freestyle (Front Crawl) and the Backstroke, as well as have a basic understanding (though not perfection) of both Breaststroke and Butterfly, diving from a Diving Block and turns for all four competitive strokes. This group of ages is then broken down into 2 practice groups.

The Intermediate Group (ages 11-18): These practices are suitable for the beginning competitive swimmer in the older age group as well as those who have just transitioned up age groups into the higher competition group. We will break each stroke down and then build them back up through drills and slower sets in order to build skills, knowledge, and techniques.

The Advanced Group (Ages 11-18):
swimmers must be competent in all 4 competitive strokes as well as their turns. This group will have the most difficult workouts planned. Many of these swimmers will be preparing for their high school swim season in the winter which begins after Thanksgiving. Additionally, these practices will be one and one-half hours (90 minutes) in length. Sunday 3-4:30 pm, Monday 7-8:30 pm, Wednesday 7-8:30 pm, and Thursday 7-8:30 pm

Please contact the Director, Sue Morse, if there is a question as to which group to place your swimmer in.  Swimmers must practice with their age group unless permission has been granted by the Director, Sue Morse. Lane assignments are determined by skill. Certain consideration may be given for the 11-18 age group due to siblings and schedules (please contact the Director before registering if there is any question).
