Happy Week 5 of Tennis Camp! Check out what the coaches had to say for the week.

Coach Ashleigh had some amazing orange ballers this week. Coach Ashleigh’s group did a lot of work with overheads and volleys to targets. Coach Ashleigh’s group really surprised her with their ability to not only recognize where they hit their shots but to also take direction from Coach Ashleigh whether it was down-the-line, cross-court, or up the middle of the court. Some orange ball games to work on these shots were fruit salad, speed racer, and target practice. Target practice was definitely the highlight this week. A yellow balloon was put onto each of three cones, cross-court, down-the-line, and the middle. The orange ballers successfully took direction from Coach Ashleigh and were able to knock down all three yellow balloons with their volleys and overheads! Overall, it was a great week full of improvement and fun!

Coach Cole said that throughout the week campers were able to improve on their doubles and singles play. The campers played many games such as of first to 21, team singles. The campers would switch teams so that all the campers were allowed to play with everyone. They were able to improve on their vollyes and doubles strategy throughout the days of play while still having fun. The campers also played singles games where the campers had to work together as a team to defeat the other two in singles play. They always brought their full attention and drive to play each afternoon no matter the conditions.

Coach Oliver’s group payed attention well and this allowed him to introduce some more advanced concepts and drills. We worked on approaching the net and playing aggressively as well as using our legs in our groundstrokes. On serves we worked on using our full body to drive up at the ball.

Coach Max said all the players  made huge progress even despite a few rainy days. Outside, we worked hard on playing more aggressive tennis, and on getting to the net and winning points with volleys (sometimes even for some bonus points). Inside, we played some exciting games of cone-catch jail, and greatly improved our groundstroke technique with some foam ball games.

Coach Ryan’s squad this week was full of energy and enthusiasm, which propelled us to some fun games and big improvements. Rallying was a big gateway skill for us as a group, and as the week went on our rallies got longer and longer with more twists and turns. Whether we were indoors playing big group games, or spread out in the sun trying to set the world record for longest rally, the energy was infectious on my court. Let’s hope for more sun next week and continue improving our fundamental tennis skills!
