Meet member, Dave, who has been a member of Wayside for about 25 years.

As an adult with ADHD, Dave uses exercise to help him stay focused. As a child, he was treated with medication to help him stay focused. In his 20’s, he studied Karate and found that his ADHD could be managed with exercise. The release of hormones, such as dopamine, helps him overcome distractions. Dave admits that his best workouts are on the days that he struggles to get to the gym. He knows that when he is not interested in exercise, those are the most important days to get out and do something.

He enjoys the mix of clientele and the staff at Wayside. Currently, his workouts focus on strength building with some cardio. When asked about experiences at Wayside, Dave shared his positive interactions with staff, the variety of offerings at the club, and his gratitude for swim instructor, Gwen. Dave and his family travel to the tropics annually, and his son was initially fearful of the water. Gwen worked with his son to help him overcome his fears, and now family vacations are much more enjoyable for all.

David works as a well-respected PR consultant, and is the author of Overcoming Distractions: Thriving with Adult ADD/ADHD. We know that Attention Deficit Disorder makes it tough for children to focus in school. But what happens when those kids grow up? How can they make the transition to a successful professional life? And how can newly diagnosed adults meet the challenges of the workplace? Read his highly rated book to get the answers to these questions and much more!
